New York Fashion Week has always been at the forefront of all things trending. Which is why, when it comes to knowing what is going to be "in" this fall, we are looking back to the runway looks that debuted this past February. From Alexander Wang's completely corporate collection to Calvin Klein covering the entire runway in popcorn-we have a list of the most popular looks from the week that are setting the bar for our wardrobes this coming fall.
Streetwear has been the rage for years, but this fall things are changing. Instead of throwing on a pair of leggings, hitting a more classic look is going to be the norm. This means more blazers, coats, and fitted skirts. And we can't forget some of the most classic prints like houndstooth and plaid.
What To Look For:
Fitted suits, business casual, tweed, and neutrals.
Our Picks:
Some designers took us back to the wild, wild west with classic fringe, patchwork patterns, and flowy dresses. This also included crochet and what is being dubbed, a "heartland" look. Designers took this a step further and started sending faux fur lined coats down the runways as well.
What To Look For:
Fringe, faux fur, crochet, and quilting.
Our Picks:
Probably the most common theme amongst the February NYFW shows was an homage to eighties fashion. Flashes of neon appeared across runways and animal print made it's comeback giving us the sudden urge to go buy some scrunchies and leg warmers.
What To Look For:
Animal print, neon, oversized jackets, and trench coats.
Our Picks:
Plastic was popular last year, but this year brands are moving towards a different futuristic look by highlighting metallic fabrics and colors in their collections. While you probably won't want to rock a completely metallic jumpsuit, there are other ways to bring this fun trend into your wardrobe.
What To Look For:
Metal, shiny materials, and sleek fit.
Our Picks:
While the 70's having been making a comeback lately, instead of styling the classic denims and mustards associated with this decade, designers moved towards the floral prints and crochet embelishments that also plagued the wardrobes of many classic 70's fashionistas.
What To Look For:
Floral dresses, flowy silhouettes, sheer, and long sleeves.
Our Picks:
Now, we do have a few more trends that deserve an honorable mention. Keep your eye out for leather jackets, oversized coats, floor length dresses (mostly white), and statement earrings. If this doesn't sound like it's going to be a fun season, then I don't know what will. But I do know that I am definitely going to be raiding my mom's closet for some fun tops from her high school days!
