  • Burgundy vs. Maroon: What's the Difference?

    December 31, 2018 3 min read

When it comes to shades of red, especially burgundy and maroon, it can get confusing. Not only do these colors look super similar, but they are so commonly mixed up, you might have had it wrong your whole life. Both burgundy and maroon are made up of the red, blue, and yellow primary colors. Although these colors may seem the same, there are some characteristics that set them apart. We’ll show you the difference and share some tips on how to incorporate these colors into your wardrobe!

    Burgundy

    Burgundy Swatch

Burgundy is a deep red color that is created by adding some purple to the red, blue, and yellow primary colors. It is more of a cool toned red. Burgundy has become one of the most popular colors for lipstick shades and other makeup. It has also become a super popular winter color when it comes to fashion. We even have a whole collection partly dedicated to it here at Bella Ella Boutique.

Burgundy pairs perfectly with neutral colors. Add a burgundy cardigan to a simple black outfit to mix it up, or wear a burgundy top with your favorite black and white plaid pants! Adding burgundy into your makeup routine when wearing a more simple outfit is the perfect way to stand out and make a statement.

    Maroon

Maroon is a brownish red color that is created by adding brown to the red, blue, and yellow primary colors and it is a warm toned red. Maroon is also a popular fall and winter color. The dark brownish red shade looks great against the colorful leaves of autumn and the snow of winter.

Maroon pairs perfectly with other warm toned colors. Try wearing a maroon and cream striped sweater like the one pictured paired with light wash skinny jeans and a light brown bamboo bag for a gorgeous outfit that is perfect for fall and winter! You can also add maroon tones to your makeup routine when wearing warm neutrals.
