  • The (Second) Ultimate Guide to Dressing for Your Pear Body Shape

    July 19, 2023 2 min read

Hello there, fashionistas! Today, we'll delve into the world of dressing for one of the most common body types - the pear, or triangle, shape. Remember, understanding your body type is the first step towards acing your style game. So, if you're unsure of your body type, here's a handy link to a body measurement tool I've made.

(Watch the video on Youtube below)

    Understanding Your Pear Body Shape

First things first, what is a pear body shape? If you're wider at the hips and narrow at the shoulders, voila, you've got a pear-shaped body. It's like being wide at the hips and then narrowing into your shoulders. This shape is quite common among women - maybe your sister, neighbor, or mom shares this body type with you!

Tried and True Do's and Don'ts

Alright, ladies, it's time to dive into the dos and don'ts of dressing a pear-shaped body. These tips have helped countless women I've worked with personally, making their morning routine easier and boosting their confidence.

    The Don'ts:

Avoid adding extra bulk around your hips. This usually is the widest part of your body, so the goal is to choose garments that flatter it, not add more weight or width. Stay away from ruffles, frills, or anything that might add more width. Stick to solid colors and simple patterns to keep it clean and simple. Another point to remember is to avoid low-rise jeans and extremely cropped items, as these can highlight the disproportion.

    The Do's:

So, what should you say yes to? Solid colors are your best friend here, and try to stick with simpler designs. Since the top half is the narrow part of your body, that's where we can add some width to balance out the proportions. Think shoulder pads, ruffle sleeves, or even a slightly baggy tee. Pair this with more tapered garments at the bottom, like straight-leg pants or flared skirts. Heels can also help elongate your body even more, creating a perfect balance.

Get Inspired by Celebrities with Pear Body Shapes

Let's be honest, who doesn't want to feel like Rihanna for a day? She slays her pear body shape with incredible style. Another icon to look up to is Jennifer Lopez. Both of these ladies create balance by keeping their bottom half simple and having fun with the top half of their outfits. They love defining their waist, creating an illusion of a perfectly tailored fit.
